Boyce Bowdon

A retired United Methodist elder, Boyce Bowdon directed communications and public relations for the Oklahoma Conference of the United Methodist Church from 1981 until 2005.

In that position, Bowdon edited the conference newspaper and other publications, produced training and interpretative videos, and led communications and public relations workshops. He was a communications consultant for bishops and other conference leaders, and media spokesperson for the United Methodist Church in Oklahoma.

Before he directed communications and public relations, Bowdon was pastor of United Methodist churches in Arkansas, Missouri and Oklahoma.

Since retiring, Bowdon has written at least 100 articles for newspapers, magazines and online publications, and is now completing his fifth book. Abingdon published his book entitled The Child Friendly Church. He also wrote Sunday school material for UMPH during the 1970s and 1980s.

He earned his undergraduate degree in journalism at Arkansas State University and his theological degree at Vanderbilt Divinity School.

Bowdon and his wife of 49 years, Arlene, are the parents of two daughters, Melody of Orlando and Gina of Oklahoma City.
