Sarah Puryear

Sarah Puryear

The Rev. Sarah Puryear serves as associate rector at St. George’s Episcopal Church in Nashville, Tennessee. She grew up in Maine, land of lobsters and L.L. Bean, which she still claims as her home state, but she has lived in the South for so long that “Y’all” has now become part of her vocabulary. She was raised in charismatic and Baptist churches, and she started on the path to Canterbury after experiencing the liturgies of Holy Week for the first time in 2001. She received her undergraduate degree in English and ancient languages from Wheaton College and her Master of Divinity from Duke Divinity School in 2008. She was ordained as a priest in 2010 by Bishop Dabney Smith of the Diocese of Southwest Florida. She went on her first mission trip to Nepal at 15 and now enjoys leading trips to serve with St. George’s ministry partners in South Africa and Honduras. She loves reading fiction, traveling to England, and chanting the liturgy whenever possible. She is married to Dan Puryear.
