Like many of us, I am continually checking the news for the latest updates about the events that transpired in Broward County, Florida on Valentine’s Day. Overcome by the tragedy, I have no words but many emotions.

   Grieved at the loss of lives.

   Proud of the caring adults who sacrificed themselves for the children in their care.

   Saddened by the number of school shootings that have occurred in 2018.

   Shocked by the first-hand accounts from students as the events unfolded. 

   Moved by the declarations of love kids made to their families via text messages.

   Grateful for the first responders who restored order in the midst of chaos.

   Angry that it has come to this.

I want…

   Our kids close.

   Our schools safe.

   Our communities to thrive.

These words echo in my spirit: What will it take for us to make a change?

Despite the pain and ugliness of the past few days, I still believe in the good. I believe in LOVE. And I pledge my life to make a difference.
